Optical equipment, guiding telescope with Merz lens, metal / glass, used at Sydney Observatory, maker unknown, Sydney, Australia, 1888-1890. A guiding telescope consisting of a brass tube that has been painted black. The tube tapers slighty towards the eyepiece in one end of the telescope. There is a glass lens in the opposite end of the telescope and a lens cap sits over the top of the lens. Two metal brackets support the body of the telescope. The guiding telescope has a 46mm objective and a pointer to indicate the centre of field.
